Are you an ELCA pastor looking for a light working vacation here in the Black Hills of South Dakota?
We have a unique Visiting Pastor Program at the Chapel in the Hills. Each summer, ELCA pastors from
all around the country spend 1-2 weeks at a time serving as our pastors-in-residence. This program has proven to be a blessing to our ministry. Pastors stay in a
fully-equipped, two-bedroom cabin on the grounds, literally steps away from the Chapel.
Responsibilities include leading a ½-hour long worship service each evening and officiating any
weddings for which the Chapel pastor is requested. This leaves most of their time free to explore
the Black Hills and surrounding area, relax in the cabin, and enjoy visiting with the volunteers and
visitors to the Chapel.
Here are some more specifics about the program:
- Each pastor may design the evening worship in the manner he/she would like.
- The Chapel has an organ, and our organist is available every night.
- Hymnals available include Evangelical Lutheran Worship, Lutheran Book of Worship, and With One Voice
- All ordained pastors are eligible to officiate weddings in South Dakota. No registration is needed.
- The Chapel management will assist in processing marriage licenses.
- Pastors are paid for each wedding performed.
- Pastors are asked to pay a donation of $100 per week, to help cover the cost of utilities, maintenance, etc.
- We accept pastors from May through the end of September. (Pastors serving in May and September have lighter duties, as our evening worship services run from Memorial Day to Labor Day.)
We accept reservations for the current year and beyond at all times. Contact Us Today!
